The Alpha Gamma Chapter of Omega Nu was founded June 13, 1927 assembled by seventeen women coming together from all areas within Yolo County. As the longest standing women’s service group in Yolo County, we are dedicated to serving each other and our community, especially in the lives of women and children. Since our inception, we have donated over $500,000 to our local community. Today, our organization is comprised of thirty-two active members and thirteen life members joined in sisterhood.

College Scholarships
Our organization’s main fundraising focus is our scholarship program. We award several scholarships annually to local high school students, supporting them in their endeavors towards a higher education. These recipients must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, commitment to the community and a marked financial need. In 2019 we awarded five, $3,000 scholarships to very accomplished and deserving high school seniors.

Meals on Wheels
Meals On Wheels is a non-profit organization that provides daily meals to 360+ homebound, senior citizens and congregate sites in Woodland, Davis, Winters and West Sacramento. Omega Nu has a long history of supporting this organization. For almost 20 years we have purchased and packed 360+ treat bags during the Valentine’s, Easter and Halloween holidays to provide a little cheerful surprise in the delivery to these seniors. Additionally, our members volunteer on a quarterly basis, to help assemble anywhere from 150 (Weekend) up to 350 (National Holiday) meal bags.

Woodland Healthcare Foundation
Omega Nu has a history of partnering with Woodland Healthcare Foundation to support causes centered on women and children dating back to 1966. Over the years we have donated a total of $25,000 to Woodland Healthcare Foundation, with our most recent gift supporting the Family Birthing Center. In 2019, the Alpha Gamma Chapter of Omega Nu was honored to join Woodland Healthcare Foundation’s Fairchild Society recognizing their philanthropic partners.

Yolo Food Bank
In 2016 Omega Nu donated $5,000 to Yolo Food Bank, a non-profit organization working to end hunger and malnutrition in Yolo County by collecting food from farmers, manufacturers and retailers and distributing it to homeless shelters, after-school, healthcare and senior nutrition programs. Our contribution was specific towards their growth into a new distribution center and operations facility, so they may make an even bigger impact to Nourish Yolo. We continue to support this very necessary organization in Yolo County as opportunities present themselves.

Annual Coat Drive
For over 10 years we have organized an Annual Coat Drive every Fall to collect coats for those in need in the upcoming Winter. For the past five years our coat donations have benefited Empower Yolo, a local non-profit that assists individuals and families escaping domestic abuse, sexual assault and human trafficking. We proudly partner with 8-12 local businesses willing to host coat donation barrels to help us to collect as many coats as possible to make the most impact.
